WEEK 60: August 5, 2019 “paint to font”
EDGAR'S BAPTISM!!! hes the one on the right. |
This week was GREAT!! We had the baptism of Edgar!!! Edgar is a super special man. He was painting our house a few weeks ago and it was super funny because one day he asked me, "Sister Hammond, does your church perform baptisms?" I was so excited i think I almost fainted. I started explaining everything to him about baptisms and he said, "Yeah. I think my baptism wasn’t valid because i was only a baby and didn’t get to choose." My heart exploded. So I invited him to church and HE WENT!! The only problem with him is that he smoked. So we went to teach him and we marked a baptismal date with him for the end of August to give him time to stop smoking.
But last week on Saturday I felt an impression really strongly that Edgar could be baptized this week. It was super strong. So I called Edgar and I invited to him to just stop smoking. 100% for 24 hours. Until church the next day. So the next day arrived and he went to church and I invited him to stop smoking for 24 hours more until we visited him that next day. So Monday we went to his house and he said that he hadn’t smoked any cigars for those days. So we invited him to be baptized this week!!! He accepted!!! He was so ready. he really was one of those people that was prepared by the Lord for baptism.
But Satan doesn’t stop trying. Because i came down with a little flu this week but that didn’t stop me. We did everything possible to get the baptism right. Even when the water heater broke, we passed the entire day heating up the water in pots on the stove because it’s winter here. Friday night (The night of the baptism) I collapsed in my bed because we are giving everything possible of us to be able to help these people take steps closer to Christ.
This week I want to challenge you guys to "magnify your callings." i know that this is the cheesy phrase that you always here in the church but it is so true. We are about the only church that everything is done volunterially (i have no clue how to spell this in English sorry). But it is our responsibility to make sure that this organization is working in the way that it should. Look at your calling and think of one way that you could do better this week. I know that your small efforts to help this church function and grow will make a bigger difference than you know.
