WEEK 41: March 27, 2019
FAMILY HISTORY! |
Wow this week was insane. I wasn't with Sister Rodrigues all week. So that was weird. After 3 months of one companion it's odd to teach with someone else.
MY AMERICAN AMOR |
So I started the week with Sister Meeks. My dearest american love. I love her to death. Even though she speaks very little Portuguese, she works so hard!! We had a few amazing miracles together. I will share them with y'all!!!
So a few weeks ago I accidentally taught a pastor in the front of his church. In my defense I didn't know it was a chapel and he was just sitting in the front (pg 41 of the missionary manual may or may not have been applied.) But when we taught him there was a woman cleaning. So I asked for her address and we went to visit her this week!! She received us super well and said that she had visited a million churches but was looking for the church of Christ!!! Her name is Roliele. she is super sweet and duh duh duh duh DUHHHH LEGALLY MARRIED!!! which is super rare here!! Nobody in this country gets married. So she is a huge miracle.
The other miracle is even BIGGER!!! So we have an investigator here named, João Gabriel. He is what we call, "an eternal investigator." Which is someone who goes to church every week but isn't progressing for one reason or another. In the case of João, his dad and his grandma DO NOT WANT HIM TO BE BAPTIZED. His mom and his step-dad are members, but his dad isn't. The last time that the missionaries went there the grandma yelled at them and kicked them out of the house. ANYWAYS. There's the backstory. So the miracle. I was with Sister Meeks and all our plans fell through and we didn't know what to do. So I got a strong impression to visit João. I got a little scared because I had heard such awful things about that house but we went. At first we just tried to call João but then the grandma called us to enter!!! BAH SHE WAS SUPER RECEPTIVE!!! She let us in, asked us about the church (she thought we were Jehovah's witnesses) (I don't know how she didn't know the name of the church but okay...). She even asked us about our English class!! And she was so excited about the English class that she is going to put it in the NEWSPAPER!!! (She's the editor of the Butiá newspaper) So guess who made the news? SISTER HAMMOND and SISTER MEEKS!!!! And she said that we could return at any time to talk to her, João or his dad. So I am super excited about that miracle.
Also family history |
The Beatles... (young men) |
Then on Saturday and Sunday we had a huge family history fair!! We got all the young men together at the park and talked to everyone about Family History!!! It was way awesome because we managed to talk to a ton of people. The young men ROCKED IT!!! They were chasing down bicycles, motorcycles, everything. They were amazing!!! So that was a great experience.
Overall it was a good week. I am pleased with what is being done here.
This week my challenge is for you all to read D and C chapters 6 and 8. This week I decided to really say a prayer and study about my challenge for you guys. I really got a strong impression that these were the chapters that you all needed. I also challenge you to write down every part that talks about Christ. I promise you will get answers to all your questions.
Eu amo vocês!!! (I love you!!!)
Sister Hammond
We had a birthday party for the relief society!!! you guys are amazing!!! |
How are the families that you found last week? Any progress at all?
Unhappily no. We only could find one of them in their house this week and they are going to be a little bit slower..... it’s a little frustrating.
What is your favorite treat during the day?
PÃO DE QUEIJO!!! I love it so much. It is amazing.
How much of your day do you spend knocking on doors or clapping at fences?
Lately not a ton because we are focusing on making contacts on the streets instead of knocking on doors. And that is going a lot better.
