WEEK 19: October 22, 2018 "If you have a reference and you know it, clap your hands."
Eh happened... |
HELLO YES IT IS I THE FAMOUS SISTER HAMMOND
So this week was a roller coaster for me. This area is gorgeous and we found some really awesome members here. They were super welcoming and they are SUPER EXCITED to have missionaries in their area.
The frustrating part is that we received a list of all the members that live in our area. Well members isn't really the word I would use. People who were baptized. Over 80% of the people are completely inactive. For years. So we are trying to track them all down and help them come back to church but so far we haven't been able to find the correct address of anybody. So we are walking a ton with not a lot of success.
We are trying to convert the cows right now. Proving to be investigators that may never progress. They aren't reading the Book of Mormon no matter how many times we bear testimony of the power. |
BUT.... WE ARE MAKING CONTACTS LIKE A MACHINE!!! We stop everyone on the street and talk to them about the gospel. We had one woman who cried when we told her that the church of Jesus Christ had been restored. She said she has been waiting to hear someone say exactly that. That she can be a member of the real church of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately. She doesn't live in our area so we passed the reference to the elders in the area where she lives. But it really showed me that people are excited and ready to hear the message of the gospel.
Yes my area is prettier than your area. |
On Sundays we wear pink |
What I love most about this area is living with 2 other Sisters!!! We are living with Sister V Araúja and a Brand spanking new missionary from Argentina. Fresh from the CTM. Her name is Sister Mendoza. I love living with them.
I don't really have much else to report on this week. So I will end with my challenge for the week.
Are you ready?
Really ready?
SUPER READY????
Okay. My challenge is for all of you to read Alma 32. I know you have all read it 1 milhão times. But READ IT AGAIN! Read it with the intent to find out how you can improve your faith in Jesus Christ. Have the faith to act on the answer that you will receive while you are reading.
I love you guys so much!!!! Keep me updated on the lives of you! You are amazing!!!
Com muito muito amor,
Sister Becca Hammond
Their plans for the new area:
We are maybe going to try and have an "American cooking class" because we figured that people on vacations would like to go to a cooking class. I am not sure how it will work but we discussed it a little bit. Also we are going to try and start a choir of members to sing in the park for Christmas. We are also going to try and work with Not-all-member families.
Her companion:
My companion is from São Paulo and is a convert. She was baptized when she was 16 years old. She is really nice and we get along really well. She really lets me lead and listens to my ideas and suggestions. I love her a lot.
Their living conditions:
We are getting beds this week. But we are staying in their apartment because Presidente said he doesn't know if he will keep missionaries in this area. So he doesn't want to get a house or anything.
Still on the floor |
Her area and where they live:
Rio grande is a city very very big. It has a lot of what are called Bairros. They are like mini cities inside a big city. So we live in Jardim do Sul which is one bairro and work in Cassino, Bolaxa, Parque Guanaba, and Quentina which are different bairros within Rio Grande.
Also will is wondering what your favorite food is.
Bis is a type of candy. It is like a wafer covered in chocolate and it is like a granola chocolate cookie with honey. It is really good. I also like pancakes here. They are just crepes in the united states but they fill them with like chicken and beef and like savory stuff. It is good.
