WEEK 18: October 16, 2018 "WArd? Branch? Group? What?"

GOSH I LOVE ALA 2!!!!

FINAL LUNCH WITH MEMBERS I LOVE THESE PEOPLE SO MUCH!!!

Final lunch in POA 2! PIZZAAAAA

River in my old area with lots of turtles.

OLA GENTE!!! so... I was transferred! After 8 hours of travel time, I am in my new area! It is called, "Cassino do Praia" which translates to "Beach of Cassino" because it is a beach.
Not only that, I am opening the area. but wait there's more. This area has NEVER had missionaries before EVER. But wait there is more. We are not part of a ward... or a branch... we are part of a group. We will have our meetings in the house of a member and our goal is 37 members in sacrament meeting. We are going to try and open a branch while were here but right now it is just a group....

I AM SUPER NERVOUS!!! But it is gorgeous down here. IT IS A LOT OF FARMLAND AND BEACH! I am super scared to open this area. But we woke up this morning and the LMA (area mission leader??) of the ward next to our area was knocking on our door to introduce us to people that could help us out! So we are going to have a lot of help from people next door!

My comp is Sister Ressurreção which translates to Sister Resurrection. Everyone laughs at her name and then struggle through saying my name. But I am excited to be working with her. She is very sweet and I am grateful for this.

I am super excited for this new adventure. I am very nervous but I trust a lot in the Lord. I trust that I will be able to open this area with success!!!

I don't really have much else for y’all this week because I am busy FREAKING OUT!!! But my challenge is actually pretty challenging. But I trust that you can do it! So President Nelson challenged all the Relief Society (and girls) to read the Book of Mormon before the end of the year... and I want to challenge you to do the same thing!! The blessings that are promised are worth the extra time you will spend reading it. I promise you will understand more your Savior Jesus Christ and your testimony will grow A LOT if you will commit to reading before the end of the year. I am doing it with you guys. I spend all my free time (which isn’t very much) reading the Book of Mormon because I want the blessings that President Nelson promised.

  • ..., I invite you to read the Book of Mormon between now and the end of the year. As impossible as that may seem with all you are trying to manage in your life, if you will accept this invitation with full purpose of heart, the Lord will help you find a way to achieve it. And, as you prayerfully study, I promise that the heavens will open for you. The Lord will bless you with increased inspiration and revelation.
  • As you read, I would encourage you to mark each verse that speaks of or refers to the Savior. Then, be intentional about talking of Christ, rejoicing in Christ, and preaching of Christ with your families and friends.  You and they will be drawn closer to the Savior through this process. And changes, even miracles, will begin to happen.
  • President Russell M. Nelson

I love you all so much! Keep me updated!!!

Com muito muito muito amor,
Sister Hammond

M: I looked it up on Google Earth, but it only recognized "Praia Do Cassino".  If it's the same than it really is WAY down there and the southernmost beach in Brazil.  How did you travel down there?  Were you alone?

B: Yes it is that beach. We were on a bus for a long time. A very long time. I was with other missionaries who are serving in the same zone and then a brother in the ward drove us to our temporary house.
