WEEK 38: March 6, 2019 "CARNAVAL!!!"

SISTER MEEKS WITH US!!!! (She's from Texas!)
Oi gente!!! Estou aqui de novo!! (Hi people!!! I am here again!!)

This week was actually really good!!! But I want to tell y’all a funny story from the other week first haha.

So we were teaching Clair about baptism and we were saying the closing prayer and she was saying how excited she was to be baptized and we heard a knock on the door (or clapping at the gate haha) and the missionaries from Jehovah's witnesses were there... Clair invited them in and we were sitting on one couch and they were on the other and it was slightly awkward and Clair asked them if they knew us and they said, "not personally but we know their work really well." So we ended up leaving and just started laughing as soon as we got on the street. It was super funny hahahaha.

But that happened a few weeks ago but I thought it was worth sharing. This week we had a "distrito amigo" here in Butiá. The entire district came here to have our meeting and to make contacts and knock on doors in the whole city!!! I got to work with SISTER RESSURREIÇÃO!!! My love of companion. It was awesome. WE had a bunch of flashbacks to Cassino. But it was super good to work with her a little bit. (Note from editor: Sister Ressurreicao was a favorite of Becca.  But who knows what “My love of companion” means!)

We also found an awesome couple this week!! They were a reference from a member. BUT  they live forever away. I always am saying that I want to find a hike on the mission and I think I found it. Because it is a hike to their house. WAYYY up on the hill. (shout out to the US missionaries with a car....) We taught them about the Atonement and it was super spiritual. I love teaching about the Atonement. so that was awesome.

ALSO HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK!! Jose is our recent convert. He doesn’t have a leg and uses a wheelchair. It is super hard for him to move. So he was baptized at the beginning of January. Immediately his ministering brother started visiting him. His ministering brother’s name is Leandro. He immediately saw a need of Jose. He had a hard time moving. So he found a man who was selling an electric wheelchair for 7000 reais. BUT he negotiated until he agreed to sell it for 1200 reais! And then he got all the quorum of elders to help pay for it for Jose. Jose got it this week and was SUPER happy. He is going up and down his street and in little circles on his front porch. He said, "I am never going to leave this church that helped me be able to move!!" Leandro is a huge example of ministering to me. Most of Brasil is having a hard time with ministering but Leando is ROCKING IT!!!!

ALSO NOW I AM LIVING WITH AN AMERICAN!!! It is awesome because all the strange things about the culture she gets it!!! We understand each other!! And this is her first area so I get to help her out a tiny bit!!! And I translate everything for her but my English is a little... rusty haha.

OTHER NEWS MY AMAZING BROTHER GOT CALLED TO THE MISSION BRASIL FLORIONOPOLIS SO NOW I WILL HAVE SOMEONE TO PRACTICE PORTUGUESE AND IT IS THE BEST NEWS OF MY ENTIRE LIFE YAY!!!
Andrew's mission in blue.  Becca's two missions below.

My challenge this week is for you to read Mosiah 18 and think about how this chapter applies to the new ministering program. We have been using this chapter a lot to teach about ministering. I love how it lays out our baptismal covenant and what we agreed to do when we entered into those waters.

I love you all!!!

com amor,
Sister Hammond
